Supportability Engineering Seminar 14 July 200930 April The day will include Case studies exploring the support for Land, Sea and Air capabilities will evaluate the systemic Through Life Support issues affecting real life projects and the way we do business today. This annual event arose post the MOD Through Life Support Conference four years ago. The MOD Conference will again take place in October this year and the intention is for the July event to consider systemic support issues from a broad industry perspective. Delegates from Industry and MoD are therefore encouraged to participate in the interactive sessions throughout the day to raise the issues affecting our ability to deliver cost effective through life support across the defence spectrum. The issues raised will be worked on in the coming months by the National Defence Industry Council subgroups such as the Joint Information Group and the Through Life Capability Management Group through their associated Working Groups. The intent is that systemic issues identified will act as hooks for discussion and debate at the MOD event in October and future conferences and seminars. In order to emphasise the joint working of MoD and Industry the SE Conference will be co chaired by The UKCeB Executive Director Steve Shepherd, and Brig. Martin Boswell, the MOD Head of Through Life Support. The draft agenda in outline is expected to be along the following lines: • A keynote from MOD - AVM Matt Wiles, Director Joint Support Chain, has agreed to speak about his vision for the defence support chain • A keynote from Industry – David Allott MD BAE Systems Land Systems will speak on readiness and sustainability in support of defence platforms from a land systems perspective. • A keynote brief on current logistic support to operational theatres. • We are also inviting a senior person from Director Ships to talk about how it feels to commission support for capital ships such as the Type 45 • Apart from that, the day will be given over to gathering industry perspectives. Our intention is to have two case themes running through the day. A maritime perspective will come from Type 45; the Type 45 Through Life Support Director; Paul Boucher has agreed to support the event. BVT and MOD will take the opportunity to talk about how they have forged a successful partnership to support this complex defence platform. We will also be hearing about how some of the major sub-systems such as the propulsion systems, the weapons systems and the onboard aircraft are supported. • The second case will be a land system case. Details are still being worked up but the intention is to hear from those in industry who are supporting one of the land systems currently on deployment, to get a real sense of the problems and challenges they are facing. There will be a number of trade stands and anyone interested in exhibiting should contact Sue Russell at sue.russell@ukceb.org, please note that several stands are already booked so please be quick to book yours! Also contact Sue to register and note that MOD Personnel are free of charge.Click here to view related photos Click here to download document in PDF format To view documents in PDF format, you will need Adobe Reader which can be downloaded by clicking here.
